Vegetables

Peppers

Cayenne - Red: Classic Cayenne peppers with some heat. I find the variety I have tend to grow smaller plants with smaller peppers than other Cayennes.

Black Hungarian: A pretty dark-leafed pepper variety with purple flowers. It grows medium-hot peppers a little smaller than a jalapeno. Unripe fruits are beautiful, shiny and black. Ripe fruits are ruby red, although I find that they are better for paprika making than fresh eating due to their tough papery skin when mature.

Black Pearl: A gorgeous ornamental pepper with black leaves and shiny, round black peppers than turn red at maturity. The peppers are very hot but are mostly grown for aesthetic vs. eating.

Alma Paprika: A lovely Hungarian pepper with thick walls, great for making paprika or fresh eating.

Bell Peppers: Classic large sweet peppers in various colors: Red Bull (red), White, Yellow, Orange, Orange/Yellow, Golden, Islander (medium purple), Purple Beauty (Dark Purple, also with thinner walls than other Bells)

Tomatoes

Black Crimson: A very hardy, sturdy beefsteak tomato that produces medium-sized black (maroon/brownish) tomatoes. These, like many black tomato varieties have an excellent flavor.

Beans

Pole Bean - Carminat: A pole bean (climbing/vining) that produces beautiful purple beans throughout the summer into the autumn. The beans have a great flavor and also freeze very well.

Cucumbers

Homemade Pickles: A variety that is ideal for pickling.

Other Things

Peppermint: Classic mint. Mint is a perennial (comes back every year) and is very vigorous once established, so make sure to plant this in a pot or somewhere you don’t mind it spreading.

Apple Mint: A mild, sweet mint that is excellent for making teas. Like other mint, it spreads easily (see above note about peppermint ^)

Lemon - Meyer: A rooted cutting of a Meyer Lemon Tree. This is not grafted onto rootstock.

Sunflower - Dark: A sunflower with dark reddish/brown petals.

Morning Glory - Purple: The classic vining flower in a beautiful dark purple variety. These are annuals but seed very easily by themselves, so plant somewhere you don’t mind them coming back next year!

Rhubarb: A large perennial (comes back every year) that is one of the first harvestable plants in the spring. Many find that the tart flavor of rhubarb pairs well with strawberry or other sweet flavors in pies, jams, baked goods, and more. Note that the stalks are eaten, but the leaves are not edible.
